Other than fabrics , garments accessories play a very important role in the garment manufacture . Bad quality accessories or wrong accessories used can cause the merchandiser to be rejected or returned by customers. Following is information about accessories which deserves our close attention.
(6) WOVEN LABEL :
To handle garment orders, it is necessary for us to know how woven labels are made with what limitation in your choice of color and size .
Coloration : It may seem to you that you can use any color you want to make a label , but this is not true . To weave a label is just like weaving a piece of poplin fabric; there are warp threads and weft threads . The warp threads are either solid white or solid black ; other colors are not available . As a result , depending on what color ground you need on your label , the label marker will try to come close to the color you need , but sometimes it is not close enough . The following will explain this point more clearly .
a. For the following colors you need as the grounds color of your label, they will use WHITE warp threads :
White Mix with To come close
Warp threads weft threads of to your color of
White Red Pink
White pink pale pink
White navy Medium blue
White Medium blue Pale blue
White Black Silver
White Light brown Beige
White White White
b. For the following colors you need as the ground color of your label , they will use BLACK warp threads:
Black Medium Blue Navy
Black Red Burgundy
Black Grey Dark grey
Black Black Black
If your buyer gives you a piece of color swatch for you to copy as grounds color of the label , it is very possible that you cannot duplicate the color exactly .
And use the same color weft threads to weave; the end result is , the ground color of the label is exactly the same as the give color swatch.
Since it is possible to do as above , why don’t the label makers dye the warp threads to the customers colors and only use either black or white in the warp; The answer is rather simple :
a ) When we order labels , if we order 10,000 dz of one label , I believe the label , marker would say it is not a small order , and if you say you need the labels in 3 weeks , I think the label marker would say it is reasonable and okey.
However , if you say need the warp threads to be in a color other than back and white , he would say your order is too small and he needs much longer than 3 weeks to makes them.
He would probably tell you that he needs a minimum quantity of 200,000 dz and 9 weeks instead of 3 weeks. This is because he will have to dye the warp threads to match your given color, and set up the warp on the weaving looms instead of using the existing warp threads already on the machine to weave.
b) Apart from the above , he may have to finish what he is weaving on the loom before he would set up the loom to weave your Special color labels. This would be a wait of 10 days to 2 weeks. He will also worry about the extra warp threads left on the loom after the quantity of your order is completed which will go to waste completely .
These are all disadvantage that you will have if you want to make the ground color of your label not from white or black warp threads.
Size :
There are certain size limitations we should observe otherwise we should have to pay excessively high price unnecessary . In today,s woven label making industry ,
People use the following two different weaving machines each with different weaving , machines each with different size limits:
(A) Conventional label weaving looms:
Labels made from this type of looms have a natural selvedge like a piece of fabric to prevent raveling . As far as size limitations are concerned , length wise , there is no limit ; widthwise , we should try very hard to use the following:
Width The label makers call it
3/8” 8 lines
7/16” 12 lines
15/16” 18 lines
1-1/4” 24 lines
1-5/8” 32 lines
2” 36 lines
Can we make the widths not mentioned above?
The answer is yes, but we will have to pay extra.
The following example will explain this point more clearly :
If your label of 15/16” is $0.50 per dz. And 1-1/4” is $0.75 per dz. But you think 15/16” is too narrow , and 1-1/4” is too wide . You like to make it I Wide and you think the price should he between $0.50 and $ 0.75 per dz. And it should be only a little higher than $ 0.50 like $ 0.55 or $0.58 per dz. You are wrong . The label marker will change about $0.80 per dz because he will have to charge you the price for 1-1/4” plus extra labor cost to reduce costs money to throw away the ¼” from the 1-1/4” label.
From the above you will see that if you choose to use the conventional machine to weaves your label , you should try to observe the above a big up –charge or surcharge for only a small difference in width .
However , in a case like you need the width of your label to be exactly as required by your customer but unfortunately the width is not one of those above , what should you do? The answer is you should check the width limits of the computerized label weaving machines and if your desired width fits.
(B) Computerized label weaving looms:
Labels made from this type of looms do not have a natural selvedge . I order to seal the edge to prevent raveling , the machine has a system with heated wire equipment to cut and seal the
Computerized machines and © from the 8 width computerized Machines .
Labels made by the computerized machines are generally more expensive for 2 Reasons :
(1) The equipment is more expensive .
(2) it consumes more yarn which forms the design of the label compared with the conventional machines .
Your choice of machine based on the width of the label will be reflected on the price .
